(GALLIANO, LA) – From recommended evacuation on Friday to the receding of high waters today, the Port Commission and its Harbor Police force have been working hard this Labor Day weekend to secure port businesses and employees during extreme weather and get back to business within hours of storm conditions abating. LA 1 south of the Golden Meadow Floodgates is now open to vehicle traffic, and access to Port Fourchon has been cleared. Port Fourchon businesses are in the process of resuming normal operations. The port is committed as always to getting back to business safely and quickly and to getting our people back to work with minimal time lost.
Every day that Port Fourchon is in operation, it impacts the regional economy with $4 million in business sales and $950,000 in household earnings, and it impacts the national economy with $27 million in business sales and $8 million in household earnings.
